Here is a small clip of my VJ performance in Isla Vista, CA. I used OSC to communicate to a Processing sketch that was running a sound reactive (FFT & amplitude based) abstract visual sketch I wrote. With fog, it created a colorful canopy over the crowd while reacting to the sounds of dub step & drum and bass. I DJed earlier that night.

I used processing to create a data visualization for one of my MAT classes at UCSB (MAT 259 – Information Visualization). I used a year of data (2008) to compare and map the number of transactions (checkin and checkouts) of each Dewey item (these include books, CD, DVD, etc). This was interesting for me to develop because I got to use trees and learn more about data structures. For more information about Dewey categories click here. As you can see the Arts dominate over the other categories, and the largest child of the art node is the Music subcategory. This sketch is interactive, and dynamic. I am currently still working on improving the look and feel and exporting the sketch for the web, so everyone can see it in action.
Media Matter…visit the link for more information. Media Matter was a final project for my Art & Technology class at UCSB. The project asked the students to think of and develop an idea that would change the future and the way humans interact with and use technology.
This was a small assignment from one of my classes this semester. The assignment was to make a visual map that depicted how the events of my life lead me to the MAT program at UCSB. This process took me a long time since I had to think a lot about events in my life, write them down in order and organize these events. The project made me realize Excel is not suitable plotting non-traditional data-types and that my data visualization skills need to improve, all around.
